This is a set of three original souvenir items sold during party rallies and public holidays in the Third Reich era, brought back to the U.S. by a WWII veteran. The set includes one large commemorative pewter plate and two ashtrays, all themed around the city of Nürnberg—renowned as the ceremonial heart of the Nazi regime.
1. Large Commemorative Plate (Left)
The plate features the inscription “Nürnberg, die Stadt der Edlen Künste voll” (“Nürnberg, the city full of noble arts”). The center displays the Nürnberg city crest—a half-eagle with vertical bars—surrounded by six detailed panels illustrating prominent architectural landmarks of the historic city. The plate measures approximately 22.8 cm in diameter. It exhibits noticeable age, oxidation, wear, and handling marks consistent with its era.
2. Pewter Ashtray (Top Right)
This ashtray showcases notable Nürnberg scenes and landmarks, with detailed relief work typical of such period souvenirs. Diameter: 13.33 cm. Displays age-related wear, surface oxidation, and some handling patina.
3. Rally-Themed Pewter Ashtray (Bottom Right)
A more political piece, this ashtray highlights locations central to the annual Nürnberg rallies: Nürnberg Castle, the Hauptmarkt, Zeppelin Field, and the Luitpoldarena. It includes two Reich eagles holding wreaths with banners containing small swastikas, and a larger central wreath and swastika above the Zeppelin Field. This item also shows oxidation, wear, and signs of age.
