An original Serbian Commemorative Cross awarded for service during the First and Second Balkan Wars (1912–1913). This decoration was instituted to recognize military personnel who took part in Serbia’s campaigns against the Ottoman Empire and later Bulgaria, conflicts that directly preceded the outbreak of WWI.
The medal is a gilt-finished bronze cross with textured arms, featuring a crowned Serbian cipher on the obverse medallion. The reverse center is correctly dated “1913”, denoting the conclusion of the Balkan Wars. The finish shows attractive, honest age toning with light verdigris in recessed areas, consistent with period wear.
The cross is suspended from its original red ribbon with narrow black edge stripes, retaining its period suspension hardware and clasp. The clasp attached to the suspension ring is loose and could easily be resewn onto the ribbon. The ribbon displays expected age wear and stains but remains structurally intact.
