Original US WWII “Remembering Pearl Harbor” Wartime Era Diary/Notebook
An attractive and unusual original U.S. wartime era personal diary/notebook titled “Remembering Pearl Harbor” with patriotic “I do my bit” slogan to the front cover. The notebook was produced by Finch & McCullough of Aurora, Illinois, manufacturers of “Memory Masterpieces,” and reflects the strong patriotic themes present in the United States following the attack on Pearl Harbor and during WWII.
The diary features a faux leather hard cover with green embossed lettering and contains numerous blank lined and journal-style pages intended for personal wartime memories, notes, photographs, and service information. The opening pages include spaces for a personal photograph, enlistment details, serial number, branch of service, and other military-related information. One page also features President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s famous “Four Freedoms” message to Congress dated January 6, 1941.
Interestingly, the diary was never fully used, with the vast majority of the pages remaining blank and unused. Toward the back are a few handwritten names and addresses, along with a short handwritten birthday inscription reading: “On your twenty-first
birthday! Good luck Betty.”
The notebook remains in very good condition overall with only light age and storage wear. A very nice example of an original American WWII home front or serviceman-related patriotic diary with excellent display appeal.
