This is an original German WWII steel ammunition carrying box designed for the MG34 and MG42 machine guns. Manufactured from stamped steel, this late-war example retains traces of its original finish, although it appears the remaining fieldgray paint was hand-brushed over the box at some point during its service life. Whether this was a wartime field repaint or a later application is unknown, but it gives the box a well-used appearance.
No maker or Waffenamt markings could be found during inspection. It is possible that any original markings remain hidden beneath the surviving layers of paint and oxidation.
Despite exhibiting a generous amount of surface rust and paint loss, the ammunition box remains structurally solid with no significant deterioration. The hinged lid opens smoothly, and the locking latch functions properly, allowing the lid to close securely. The carrying handle is intact and operates as intended.
This is an honest, untouched late-war MG34/MG42 ammunition box that would display well in its current battlefield-used condition or could serve as an excellent candidate for careful restoration.
