Original German WWII DRL Sports Badge in Bronze by Wernstein Jena
This is an original German WWII
DRL (Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen) Sports Badge in Bronze, manufactured by
Ferdinand Wagner. The DRL Sports Badge was awarded for physical fitness and athletic achievement and was produced in Bronze, Silver and Gold grades.
This example is die-struck with nice detail throughout the oakleaf wreath and intertwined "DRL" monogram. The original finish is mostly tarnished. There are a few areas that hardly show any tarnishing. The reverse retains its original hardware, all of which remain intact and functional.
The reverse is clearly maker marked
“WERNSTEIN JENA” along with
“D.R.G.M. 35269.” The maker's mark remains legible despite age related wear.
