Original German WWII Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse) With Ribbon Unmarked
One of the most recognizable combat awards of WWII. Re-instituted by AH on September 1, 1939, the Iron Cross was awarded for acts of bravery in combat and distinguished military leadership. This is an original German WWII Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse) in its classic three-piece construction, consisting of a magnetic iron core with a silvered frame. While unmarked, the cross is an authentic wartime-produced example displaying all the correct manufacturing characteristics expected of an original award.
The obverse features the raised central swastika above the 1939 date, while the reverse displays the traditional 1813 date commemorating the original institution of the Iron Cross by King Frederick William III of Prussia.
The black painted iron core remains well-preserved, retaining the vast majority of its original finish with only very minor age-related wear and some very slight rust at one of the swastika's legs. The silvered frame exhibits an attractive natural patina with light wear and toning from age and handling, highlighting the crisp beaded border and sharp details throughout. Overall, the cross presents very nicely and has not been cleaned or polished.
The medal is complete with a ribbon in the correct black, white, and red colors, with some minor stains and making it ready for display or addition to a collection.
Overall, this is a fine original WWII Iron Cross 2nd Class that displays honest age, an attractive untouched appearance, and excellent eye appeal. A desirable example for any collection of German WWII awards or militaria.
