A good original example of the Luftschutz “Gladiator” style helmet, retaining its characteristic multi-piece construction and original dark blue finish. The exterior shows honest age and service wear throughout, with scattered oxidation, surface spotting, and areas of paint wear consistent with long-term storage and use. The Luftschutz winged decal remains present on the front, showing good detail with expected wear and light fading.
The shell retains its correct three-piece construction with visible seams and properly set rivets. Ventilation holes are intact and undisturbed. Overall, the helmet presents with a nice untouched appearance and displays well.
The interior retains its original leather liner, which is dry from age with several of the liner fingers showing cracking and damage. The original drawstring is still present. The chinstrap is no longer present and appears to have broken off over time due to age and dryness.
The interior of the shell retains its original printed approval markings, including “Vertrieb genehmigt gemäß §8 Luftschutzgesetz”, along with the size designation “Kopfweite: 57” and period pricing mark “Höchstpreis 8.00 RM.” A faint stamped approval code is also visible in the shell.
A solid, honest Luftschutz helmet showing typical age and wear, ideal for display or as part of a Luftschutz or civil defense collection.
