Original German Pre-WWII Regimental .5L Beer Stein 17.(E.M.G.) Komp. J.R. 42 Hof, Pewter Lid And Named
This is an original German pre-World War II military reservist-style beer stein commemorating service with 17. (E.M.G.) Kompanie, Infanterie-Regiment 42, Hof. The front features an attractive multicolor transfer depicting a German machine gun crew beneath a national flag within an oak leaf wreath, along with the patriotic inscription "Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" ("In Memory of My Time in Service").
The stein is marked 17.(E.M.G.) KOMP. on the left and J.R.42 HOF on the right, identifying it to the 17th (Heavy Machine Gun) Company of Infantry Regiment 42, which was stationed in Hof, Bavaria during the pre-war Wehrmacht period.
Constructed of glazed stoneware, the stein is fitted with its original pewter lid featuring an embossed steel helmet within an oak leaf wreath. The thumb lift and hinge remain intact and function properly. The lid has also been personally engraved with the original owner's name, adding desirable period personalization and historical character.
The stoneware body remains in very good condition, retaining strong color and excellent detail to the transfer decoration. There is light age crazing to portions of the glaze, along with a few scattered handling marks and minor staining consistent with age and storage. The interior is clean, and the base shows expected shelf wear. The capacity mark "0.5L" is molded into the rear of the stein.
Overall, this is an attractive and well-preserved pre-war German military commemorative stein with clear unit identification, personalized engraving, and an appealing military motif, making it an excellent display piece for collectors of German militaria.
