Unissued Original U.S. WWII AAF Cloth Map Asiatic Series – No. 34 (Southeast China), No. C-40 (Luzon Island)
This is an original unissued U.S. WWII Army Air Forces (AAF) Asiatic Series double sided cloth escape/navigation map, featuring No. 34 Southeast China on one side and No. C-40 Luzon Island on the reverse.Printed on lightweight rayon cloth, these maps were designed to withstand repeated folding and handling in the field. Unlike traditional paper maps, they could be compactly carried and were far less susceptible to tearing or damage from moisture.
No. 34 Southeast China provides detailed period cartography of southeastern China and the surrounding region. The reverse, No. C-40 Luzon Island, covers Luzon and the surrounding Philippine waters. Both sides contain extensive geographic and navigational information, including cities, transportation routes, rivers, coastlines, islands, terrain features, and other important reference points.
This example is in excellent condition, remaining mostly clean and well preserved with vibrant printing throughout. It shows very little yellowing and no evidence of actual field use. There are a few small stains, one example can be seen in the very last photo.
